"GOLDTOWER CENTRAL'S LATEST UNVEILING"

Updated: 1 day ago

Recently, Charters Towers proudly welcomed the NQ Visitor Information Centres’ Volunteer Conference - a gathering dedicated to the passionate individuals who champion our region every day. The volunteers had the opportunity to experience firsthand some of Charters Towers’ standout tourism attractions and rich local history.

Adding a special highlight to the event, Goldtower Central unveiled its newest attraction: a striking 3.5-tonne replica of a REO Motor Car. This larger-than-life sculpture is more than just a vehicle — it’s a powerful tribute to Charters Towers’ pioneering spirit. At the wheel is Harry Bishop, the trailblazer who brought the first motor vehicle to the town in 1908. Seated beside him is his daughter, Dorothy Bishop — Queensland’s first certified female pilot — symbolising a legacy of innovation and fearless ambition.

The unveiling was witnessed by 80 hard-working volunteers, whose dedication mirrors the very spirit this sculpture represents: bold, driven, and deeply rooted in community.
