Last week, Charters Towers stepped into the national spotlight as Channel 9 ’s TODAY Show rolled into town — and what an unforgettable morning it was!
With cameras rolling and smiles all around, our vibrant community had the chance to show the rest of Australia what makes this part of North Queensland so special.
From the sparkle of gold panning to the rich stories behind the Wall of History at Goldtower Central, the segment gave viewers a taste of our town’s heritage and charm. Mick Bethel wowed the crowd with his impressive longhorn, representing Texas Longhorn Tours, bringing a real sense of the outback to morning TV.
Local students from Blackheath & Thornburgh College and Columba Catholic College also joined in, proudly representing their schools and showcasing the spirit of our youth.
Adding even more excitement to the morning, Tate van Wel from the Charters Towers Rodeo brought along his horses, giving the show a real rodeo flavour and highlighting one of our most loved local events.
It was a fantastic opportunity to put Charters Towers on the map in a big way — and we couldn’t be prouder. A huge thanks to the TODAY Show for helping share our story with the nation!
