MULTI-SKILLED OPERATOR

Eight years ago, I was sitting in my Brisbane lounge room with my four boys. I suddenly realised I wanted my children to grow up with more – more space, more opportunities, and a different scene.
So I pulled out the map, saw Charters Towers and just said,
“This is where we are going!”

I had never been to Charters Towers in my life but liked it was inland, and only an hour from a large city. I had no trouble finding a job and work as a multi-skilled operator on a large development.

I now have five children and we have never looked back. We love it!

SAHARa'S GOLDEN STORY

ADVANCED CARE PARAMEDIC

I was born in Zimbabwe and migrated to Australia to attend university and have since lived in some of Australia’s most well-known and beautiful destinations – Launceston, Bryon Bay, Gold Coast.

But it was Charters Towers that stopped me in my tracks. As soon as I drove over the Burdekin River I knew I was home. I just love it. I have since bought my own home on 20 acres and am living my dream of owning and training horses.

ALEX & BELLE'S golden story

ALEX: OWNER, TATTOOED BULL BEEF BILTONG & BELLE: HEAD OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

We moved to Charters Towers with our three children in 2010 so that Belle could take up a teaching position.  Our plan was to stay a year or two before moving back to South East Queensland to be near family.

But having lived in Perth and Brisbane where an hour commute to and from work each day was the norm, we found that living in Charters Towers was just the country change we needed – and it has been our home ever since!
